NDLEA entry salary sits under CONPASS. The portal is official NDLEA portal. Dates change per exercise. I, David Atulegwu, reviewed this guide myself. Always confirm dates on the NDLEA careers page before you apply.
Direct Answer: Salary, Portal, Dates At A Glance
NDLEA pays through CONPASS. That’s Consolidated Paramilitary Salary Structure. Entry pay depends on your cadre. SSCE, NCE, OND, HND, BSc all differ.
Recruitment is free. No fee at any stage. The only legit portal is ndlea.gov.ng. During exercises they use recruitment.ndlea.gov.ng.
Starting and closing dates aren’t fixed. NDLEA announces per exercise. I saw conflicting dates online. So check their verified handles. Don’t trust WhatsApp broadcast.
If you miss the window, you wait. Portal locks automatically.
What NDLEA Recruitment Means For You
This is federal paramilitary entry. You join anti-drug enforcement. You can be posted anywhere. Lagos, Kano, Enugu, Aba, Abuja.
It’s not like bank recruitment. GTBank or Access Bank tests are different. Here you need physical fitness. And clean record.
You apply online first. Then screening. Then documentation. Then training.
I tell readers from UNILAG, UNN, ABU, FUTA same thing. Prepare documents early. Don’t wait for portal.
Who Should Apply For NDLEA
You should apply if you meet basic criteria. NDLEA states them per advert. Generally:
You must be Nigerian. By birth.
You must be within age bracket. Usually 18 to 35 for officers. Sometimes 40 for doctors or lawyers.
You must have required qualification. SSCE, NCE, OND, HND, BSc, MBBS, LLB.
You must be medically fit. No chronic illness.
You must be of good character. No criminal conviction.
You must have NYSC discharge or exemption for graduates.
If you studied at YABATECH, Federal Poly Nekede, Kaduna Poly, you fit under OND/NCE cadre. If you finished from UI or UNIBEN with BSc, you fit graduate cadre.
Don’t apply if you’ve been dismissed from civil service before. NDLEA checks.
Which Cadres Are Usually Open
Narcotic Officer Cadre. For degree holders.
Narcotic Assistant Cadre. For SSCE, NCE, OND.
Specialist Cadre. For lawyers, doctors, pharmacists, nurses, engineers.
When To Apply And When To Wait
Apply only when portal is open. NDLEA doesn’t recruit monthly. Sometimes once in two years. Sometimes three.
Last cycle generated lots of fake news. Vanguard report on fake recruitment alerts warned applicants. NDLEA said no recruitment then.
So when should you use the portal?
When NDLEA posts on its main site.
When their verified X and Facebook pages post.
When Federal Character Commission lists it.
Don’t apply through ndleaportal.com or any .com that isn’t linked from ndlea.gov.ng. Many are scams.
If portal says closed, wait. Don’t pay anyone to reopen it.
Entry Level Salary Breakdown I Verified
I can’t quote one fixed official figure. NDLEA doesn’t publish payslips. Salaries sit under CONPASS. Estimates online vary widely.
I cross-checked several publications. Some say 70k, some say 180k. Difference comes from allowances. And from rank.
Always check the current CONPASS salary review and official circulars from National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission. They regulate paramilitary pay.
Here’s how it generally works for new entrants:
| Cadre | Typical Grade Level | Qualification Example | Estimated Monthly Range | Note |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Assistant – SSCE Entry | GL 04 – 05 | WASSCE from WAEC, NECO | ₦40,000 – ₦65,000 base | Plus uniform, risk allowance |
| Assistant – NCE / OND | GL 06 | Fed Poly, College of Education | ₦50,000 – ₦80,000 base | Higher with posting allowance |
| Assistant Superintendent II | GL 08 | BSc from UNN, HND from Poly | ₦74,000 – ₦120,000 base | Graduate entry point |
| Assistant Superintendent I | GL 09 | BSc + NYSC, LLB, Pharmacy | ₦120,000 – ₦180,000 estimated | Specialists may earn more |
| Medical / Specialist | GL 10 – 12 | MBBS, DVM, MSc | ₦180,000 – ₦250,000 estimated | Consult official circular |
These are estimates. Not official payslips. Actual take-home includes rent, risk, uniform, and field allowances. Posting matters too. Lagos or Abuja operations pay differently than admin desk.
Don’t trust anyone promising exact salary before screening. NDLEA doesn’t do that.
Information To Prepare Before You Apply
Get your file ready now. Portal window is short. Sometimes two weeks. Sometimes three.
- Full name as on NIN.
- Date of birth.
- NIN number.
- State of origin and LGA.
- Phone number and email. Use active Gmail.
- Height and chest measurement. NDLEA measures.
- Educational certificates. WAEC scratch card details too.
- NYSC certificate number if graduate.
- Passport photo. White background. Less than 100KB.
- Guarantor details. Usually senior officer or traditional ruler.
Banks like First Bank or UBA ask for BVN. NDLEA doesn’t. Don’t input BVN or bank details. It’s free.
| Document | Why NDLEA Needs It | Common Nigerian Issue |
|---|---|---|
| NIN slip | Identity verification | Name mismatch with WAEC |
| WAEC / NECO / NABTEB | Minimum entry proof | Missing original, only printout |
| OND / NCE / HND / BSc | Cadre placement | Statement of result expired |
| NYSC certificate | Graduate status | Using exemption when you should have discharge |
| Birth certificate / Age declaration | Age bracket check | Affidavit age differs from NIN |
| Certificate of origin | Federal character | LGA letter not stamped |
| Guarantor form | Character reference | Wrong signature, no stamp |
Scan all as PDF. Keep each under 500KB. Use phone scanner. CamScanner works.
Portal Usage Guide: Step-By-Step
I’ve used federal portals for years. NDLEA’s is simple. But it fails under traffic.
Do this early morning. 5am to 7am works. Use Chrome. Not Opera Mini.
| Step | What To Click | What Happens |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Go to ndlea.gov.ng, click Careers | Redirects to recruitment.ndlea.gov.ng if open |
| 2 | Create account | You get email verification link |
| 3 | Log in, select cadre | Form loads based on qualification |
| 4 | Fill bio-data | System checks age and NIN format |
| 5 | Upload documents and photo | Preview shows before submit |
| 6 | Review and submit | Application ID generates |
| 7 | Print acknowledgement slip | Keep it for screening |
Detailed guide below.
- Visit official NDLEA portal. Don’t google “NDLEA recruitment” and click first ad.
- Click “Careers” or “Recruitment”. If exercise is closed, you’ll see past info only.
- Register with valid email. Use Gmail you can access. Yahoo sometimes delays OTP.
- Verify email. Check spam folder. NDLEA OTP expires fast.
- Fill form in one sitting. Don’t leave idle. Portal times out after 20 minutes.
- Enter NIN correctly. Triple check. One digit error locks you out.
- Choose only one cadre. You can’t apply for two. System flags double entry.
- Upload passport. White background. No filter. No cap.
- Submit and print. Save PDF copy on phone and Drive.
- Write down Application ID. Example: NDLEA/2025/ASN/123456. You’ll need it.
If portal shows 502 error, wait 30 minutes. Don’t spam refresh.

Application ID generated: NDLEA/ASNII/2025/AB1234. Slip printed at a cybercafe in Aba, along Azikiwe Road.
This sample mirrors what I see for many graduates in the South-East.
Alternative Sample For Different Qualification Level
This is for SSCE or OND applicant. Different cadre.
Name: Fatima Yusuf Abdullahi. DOB: 02 January 2002. State: Kano, Nasarawa LGA.
Qualification: NCE Biology/Chemistry, Federal College of Education Kano, 2023. O-Level: NECO 2019, 6 credits.

NYSC not needed for this cadre. But NCE certificate needed.
Height: 1.68m. Guarantor: Village Head with stamp and phone number.
Documents: NECO result, NCE certificate, NIN, indigene letter from Kano State, age declaration from court.
She applied using phone but printed slip at school ICT center. She saved Application ID in her email draft.
Both samples show you need different files per level. Don’t upload BSc when applying for Assistant cadre if you don’t have it. Be consistent.
How To Submit And Confirm Your Application
Submission is online only. No physical submission at NDLEA office in Ikoyi or Abuja.
After you click final submit, three things must happen.
You see success page with Application ID.
You receive email confirmation. Subject usually “NDLEA Recruitment Acknowledgement”.
You can log back in and view status as “Submitted”.
If you don’t get email in 2 hours, log back in. Check dashboard. If it says submitted, you’re fine. Email delay is common.
Print two copies of acknowledgement. Keep one at home. Keep one in your bag for screening.
Don’t laminate yet. Keep it plain A4.
Don’t pay for confirmation. No NDLEA officer will WhatsApp you for confirmation fee.
What Happens After Submission
This part is slow. Federal process is slow.
Shortlisting. NDLEA screens by age, qualification, state quota.
Publication of shortlisted names. Usually PDF on site. Check NDLEA careers page.
Screening invite. Venue per zone. For South-East, usually Enugu. For South-West, Lagos or Ibadan.
Physical verification. You bring originals. White shorts, white shirt, white canvas.
Height, chest, fitness test. Running, push-ups.
Drug integrity test. Yes, NDLEA tests you.
Documentation and final list.
Training at NDLEA Academy, Jos. Jos is cold. Carry jackets.
After training, posting letter. Could be NDLEA Command in your state or another state.
Note: This sequence can change. Always follow official notice for that exercise.
Common Mistakes To Avoid
I see these every year. From applicants in Aba, Port Harcourt, Kaduna.
Using wrong portal. Only ndlea.gov.ng is safe.
Double application. System bans you. Apply once.
Wrong date of birth. NIN says 1995, affidavit says 1999. NDLEA rejects.
Blurry passport. Photo with sunglasses or filter. Reject.
Incomplete O-Level. You need 5 credits. Including English. Not 4.
Expired statement of result. If your school says 2 years validity, get original.
Fake certificate of origin. LGA secretaries now verify via phone.
Applying above age. If advert says 35 max, 36 won’t pass filter.
Paying someone on Facebook. NDLEA recruitment is free. I repeat, free.
Using cybercafe guy’s email. You lose control. Use your own.
Late application. Portal closes at midnight of closing date. Sometimes 11:59pm WAT. Don’t wait till last day.
Not printing slip. No slip, no entry at screening gate.
Also avoid name mismatch. If WAEC says Chinedu E. Okoro and NIN says Chinedu Emeka Okoro, swear affidavit for name reconciliation. Do it at High Court, not custom affidavit shop.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is NDLEA recruitment form out now?
Check live status on official site. As of my last check, no open form. NDLEA will announce. Don’t rely on blogs saying form is out when it’s not.
How much is NDLEA entry salary?
Under CONPASS. Base around ₦50k to ₦120k for new entry depending on cadre. With allowances, take-home higher. Confirm via official wage commission circulars.
Is there fee for application?
No. Zero. If any site asks for ₦5,000 or ₦10,000, it’s fake.
Can SSCE holder apply?
Yes. Under Narcotic Assistant cadre. You need 5 credits in WAEC, NECO, or NABTEB.
Can I apply with awaiting result?
No. NDLEA needs result. Awaiting result not accepted.
Can married women apply?
Yes, if advert allows. Usually NDLEA allows. But check specific exercise guidelines. Some paramilitary exercises had restrictions before. Always read advert line by line.
What is closing date?
It varies. Previous exercise in 2023 closed after about 2 weeks. 2025 dates circulated online were not all official. Always use date on NDLEA portal itself.
Where is screening venue?
Zonal. South-South often Port Harcourt, South-East Enugu, North-West Kaduna, North-Central Jos, South-West Lagos, North-East Bauchi. Final venue comes with shortlist.
Do I need connection to get in?
You need merit. Federal character and fitness matter. Don’t pay for slot. Many who paid in past lost money.
Can I edit after submission?
Usually no. Some exercises allow edit before closing date. If portal has “Edit” button, use it once. After closing, no edit.
Final Practical Advice From My Desk
I’ve reviewed many federal recruitment guides. This is my take. As Editor.
Start preparing now. Don’t wait for form. Get NIN slip clear. Get original certificates. Fix name mismatch early. Courts in Umuahia, Aba, Enugu take days.
Save money for transport to screening. Not for bribe. For bus.
Keep fitness. NDLEA physical test is real. Start jogging around your street in Aba or anywhere you stay. 2km daily helps.
Create a dedicated email folder. Label it NDLEA. Save all correspondence there.
Use one phone number throughout. Don’t switch SIM.
Follow only official sources. Bookmark official NDLEA portal and Vanguard report on fake recruitment alerts for scam warnings. I also read Daily Trust update on NDLEA portal for cross-check.
If you need help at cybercafe, watch the operator type. Don’t let him guess your LGA or date of birth.
Finally, have Plan B. Federal jobs are competitive. Over 100,000 apply for few slots. Keep teaching, keep your POS business, keep your NYSC PPA work. Don’t resign before you get final letter.
I, David Atulegwu, wrote this to save you from fake news. Apply smart. Apply free. And apply early when portal opens.
